Religion, belief, ritual and symbolism are linked to major interest of anthropologists which is art.The anthropology of art has been concerned with material objects such as sculpture, masks, paintings, textiles, baskets, pots, weapons and the human body itself. These are not seen merely as aesthetic objects, appreciated for their beauty but as playing a wider role in people's lives.
The anthropological study of art include the symbolic meanings encoded in such subjects as well as the materials and techniques of their production. In many societies the artist is not specially recognized as an individual creator nor are their works distinguished as part of a separate high culture.Artistic production is often general to large number of people being collective rather than individual. The concepts of creativity and innovation can vary tremendously in different cultures.
